New Life Members

At the recent Annual Conference, life membership was granted to five long-serving members who have all played significant roles in supporting the membership in addition to having a significant impact on the evolution of the union that is VIEU today.

Fran Cosgrove. Fran has been president of VIEU since 2001. She has been an active member of the Committee of Management, a member of the Finance Committee and a delegate to IEUA Federal Council. She has played a significant role in all campaigns and successfully chaired the stopwork meeting for 2000 members in 2004.
Harry Dobson. Harry began his career at Xavier in 1967 and worked at Geoghegan, Mercy College Coburg, CRC Sydenham and Penola in Broadmeadows. Harry has been a tireless worker for social justice, a great supporter of members and a member of the Committee of Management.
Joan North. Joan has been a long time VIEU member, President of the VIEU Principals' council, member of the Committee of Management and was in feet one of the two primary negotiators for the first award in Catholic schools.
John Mildren. John has been a union member since 1981 and served on the original VCPSA executive. He was a member of the inaugural VIEU Committee of Management, a principal at Nazareth school in Drysdale and is currently a director of the Catholic Superannuation Fund.
Jan Sherry. Jan is a union member of long standing in VATIS, VIESA and now VIEU. Her role in the amalgamation of the unions was pivotal. She has been the chair of the VIEU Finance Committee and has made a major contribution to the evolution of Superannuation in the independent school sector as a board member of Invest and then ISST, which has become NGS.
