Government Sector Wages Campaign Over

Agreement was reached this morning on a wages deal for Victorian Government schools. The 3-year Agreement will deliver a wage increase of $10,000 to teachers at the top of the incremental scale, bringing them into line with teachers in NSW and make graduate teachers the highest paid in the country.

The determination of AEU and VIEU members to achieve a just outcome, backed by strong public support for the campaign, undoubtedly contributed to its success. VIEU members should feel proud of their contribution.

More detail on the outcome will be made available on the VIEU website later today and emailed to all Reps. Of course the proposed NAPLAN protest action is now called off.

Although the Government sector campaign is over, negotiations with Catholic employers on the VIEU claim still have some way to go. Little progress has been made while the parties waited for the Government school outcome, but with today's announcement we now expect to progress the VIEU claim as quickly as possible.

It is important that your Rep or sub-branch proxy attends VIEU Councils on Saturday 17 May. A full briefing on the AEU deal will be given as well as a report on progress on negotiations with Catholic employing authorities.

VIEU thanks each and every VIEU member for their support and action during this campaign. This wage outcome represents considerable improvement on the Government's original offer and stands as testament to what we can achieve together.
