Teachers Health Fund

VIEU members and their families are eligible to join the Teachers Heath Fund. 

Teachers Health Fund is a not-for-profit health fund which was established in 1954 by the NSW Teachers Federation for union members working in NSW government schools. Over the years the fund has expanded to include union members in other approved education unions.  The society provides excellent value in providing quality cover at very low contribution rates in comparison to other funds. 

The Health Fund has over 80,000 members, making it the tenth largest fund in Australia and the Fund has agreements with many private hospitals which usually means at the top hospital cover rate, there are no gap or excess payments made by fund members. A comparison with other smaller funds indicates savings of hundreds of dollars a year can be made for top hospital cover. Children of members may retain their membership once they leave full-time study or cease to be dependents.

The Health Fund also provides exceptional value travel insurance.

Membership of the Teachers Health Fund is only available to VIEU members.

If you are in another health fund, transferring across is very easy. Simply fill out an application form and the Health Fund will transfer your membership. There is no waiting period for equivalent levels of cover.

The Teachers Health Fund pays claims via a 'super-fast' mail service. The office in Melbourne for over the counter claims is located at Teachers Eyecare - 393 Swanston St Melbourne.

Union Health Centre
The Union Health Centre offers union members savings on medical, dental, optical and physiotherapy services. Specifically, the Union Health Centre offers a 25% discount on optical and dental services. Bulk billing arrangements are available on all medical and optometrical services.

DentaCare
Dentacare offers members reduced dental fees with up to 40% savings on average dental charges. VIEU members pay a special low annual membership fee. On joining, members receive a membership card, a schedule of fees and immediate access to a network of participating dentists and specialists. members and their families are automatically protected against the cost of accidental damage to their teeth for an amount of up to $2000 per single membership or $4000 per family membership.

Unident
Unident offers discounted dental services to Union members and their immediate families through a network of participating dentists in Melbourne and country Victoria. There is no fee for the initial examination and a fee schedule is available upon request.
