Clara Weekes - Preparing Students for Work
Whether you are looking for guest speakers to diversify your careers or legal studies curriculum or preparing students for work experience the Clara Weekes project can provide you with an interesting, well-resourced and interactive session on young peoples’ rights at work. Clara Weekes is education program focusing on the rights of young workers and is organised by the Young Unionist Network (YUN) as part of the Victorian Trades Hall Council. Danielle Archer, YUN coordinator, has developed the program to provide students from Year 9 upwards with an overview of their rights, the wages and conditions they can expect when they start work, and the role of unions in workplaces. Students have a really limited understanding of what their rights and responsibilities are in the workplace. That’s why the Clara Weekes program has been designed by young workers for young workers and really provides practical information that students can use. VIEU is a proud supporter of YUN and encourages teachers and careers advisors to take advantage of this free service when structuring their careers and work experience programs. To organise a Clara Weekes speaker or to find out more about the program contact Danielle Archer on (03) 9659 3578 or darcher@vthc.org.au More information about YUN can also be found on their website www.yun.org.au |
