Non-Member Policy
VIEU Non-Member Policy
This policy is based on the commitment of VIEU's Committee of Management and VIEU staff to providing industrial advice, advocacy, representation and professional representation of the highest quality on an equal basis to all financial members.

There will be no assistance to non-members.

The above policy shall not apply to any person in their first six months of employment in a non-government school.

Where a person joins the union and a problem develops after the date of joining, then that member shall be entitled to advice and assistance immediately.

Where a person experiences a problem while he/she was a financial member of VIEU, but is no longer eligible to be a member of VIEU, he/she shall continue to receive advice and assistance in relation to that problem.

Where a non-member seeks advice about an existing problem or a member seeks advice about a problem that arose prior to the time they joined the union, no assistance will be granted (save that advice may be given), subject to the provisions of clause 6 below.

In the interests of progressing the objectives of the union, a special exemption may be granted at the discretion of the General Secretary, whereby the above clauses may be waived in whole or in part.

When an exemption is granted in accord with 6 above, then a fee of 2 times the annual fee, plus 10% of any settlement, shall be charged.
