Beginning Teacher Conference: First Class

Practical, useful and relevant, this conference is open to all teachers in the first three years of their career.
The conference consists of a keynote presentation and a series of workshops specifically designed for beginning teachers. Workshops offered will provide a choice for participants in primary and secondary streams.
Topics covered on the day will include:
- Maximising the power of the classroom relationship
- Effective communication with parents
- Student management
- Legal issues
The First Class conference brochure, circulated early in 2010, will detail the workshops based on feedback from our members and graduate teacher network. Participants will attend two workshops as well as the keynote address.

The power of influence: how to communicate in the most challenging situations

Communication is an art requiring consistent practice. In this informative workshop, Dr Trinidad Hunt will deliver some advanced techniques, enabling participants to learn how to frame a conversation, adapt to others' communication styles, and turn a dispute into a discussion. Participants will make a tangible improvement in their communication skills.

Managing your career: CV writing and interview skills

This training provides you with information and skill development to enable you to plan, enjoy and control your career. Intended for existing staff looking to develop their careers, this seminar will include information on careers and work, networking, CV writing and interview skills. Dr Trinidad Hunt will present this seminar which will focus on raising the performance of your class and getting individuals involved in interactive lessons, through team support and positive peer collaboration. Teachers will discover how to turn a group of students into a team of self-driven students.
