The Fair Work Act 2009: What does it mean for you?

 


 

These seminars are aimed at staff working in independent schools and will explain in detail the changes that will be taking place in July this year and January 2010. Seminar 2 is specifically aimed at staff who wish to enter into a new collective agreement or who are currently negotiating one.

Seminar 1: The Fair Work Act 2009 Explained (PD920)
Tuesday 21 July, 2.00-5.00pm
Topics covered will include the new unfair dismissal and unlawful termination provisions, the role of Fair Work Australia, the new collective agreement making regime and workplace rights. The seminar will also explain the new safety net system which will come into force on 1 January 2010.

Seminar 2: The Fair Work Act 2009 and agreement making at the workplace (PD921)
Wednesday 2 September, 2.00 - 5.00pm
New collective agreement-making processes will be explained in detail including how bargaining is commenced, legal obligations on employers to bargain and to bargain in good faith.The seminar will also coverthe new workplace rights which will protect members who bargain and the role of Fair Work Australia in the agreement-making process.

Seminar 3: The Fair Work Act 2009 - Wages and Conditions from 1 January 2010 (PD922)
Wednesday 14 October, 2.00 - 5.00pm
The new safety net will be explained in detail including the role of "modern awards", the 10 National Employment standards and how collective agreements will operate and apply. The seminar will also giveyou the opportunity to clarify how wages and conditions will be regulated from 1 January 2010 at your school.

All sessions will be held at the VIEU Conference Centre, 120 Clarendon Street, South Melbourne and are free.
