Welcome to VIEU

VIEU Awards 2007

Jan Bavinton Memorial Award

Each year VIEU will award $3000 to assist a School Officer member to undertake a Professional Development project.

This special Award for a School Officer member is presented in memory of Jan Bavinton, a laboratory manager at Carey Grammar, who died on 28 February 1989. Jan was at Carey Grammar for twenty three years, and was highly regarded by the staff as a innovative, dedicated and efficient colleague who played an important part in the school community over a long period of time.
In particular, Jan is remembered for her interest in health and safety, social activities and the individual. She was deeply concerned about the conditions under which many ancillary staff operated and worked tirelessly with VATIS (the Independent School predecessor of VIEU) to achieve an award for school assistants in Independent schools.

The Jan Bavinton Memorial Project was established in 1989. The project acknowledges the professionalism, commitment and excellence of support staff in non-government schools. The award money can be used for costs associated with the project, such as fees, travel or leave, if paid leave is not available
