Student Membership form
Who Can Join
Almost any person who works in non-government education can join VIEU. Membership includes teachers, principals, school assistants, clerical and administrative workers, teacher aides, integration aides, library and laboratory technicians, and educational consultants.
Employees who work in an ancillary capacity such as cleaners, grounds and maintenance workers, bus drivers and canteen staff can also join VIEU. There are only a few exceptions. If in doubt, please contact VIEU.
Why Join VIEU
If you work in non-government education it pays to be a member of the union who advances and protects your professional and industrial interests and secures your wages and conditions. Members have access to free legal advice and are covered by VIEU's professional indemnity and legal liability insurance.
As well, members can access all the benefits which come with collective purchasing power such as discount health and travel insurance, access to a discount shopping service and discounts on a range of other goods and services.

How to Join
All new members must complete and sign the VIEU membership form. Forms can be obtained:

from the VIEU Rep at your workplace

by downloading the form and mailing / faxing it back to VIEU (2010 form) (Student Form 2010 )

by ringing VIEU and a form will be sent to you
The VIEU membership fee is set each year by members at the VIEU Annual Conference. The sliding scale of fees is tailored to cater for different income levels and several payment options, including a payroll deduction facility in most schools, makes paying your fees easy.

Casual Relief / Emergency Teachers - reciprocal union referral
Casual relief/emergency teachers are encouraged to join the education union of most relevance, that is, the union covering the sector (government schools or non-government schools) where they predominantly work.
If a VIEU CRT/emergency teacher needs to seek advice /assistance from the AEU in relation to government school issue, they will need to be referred to that union by VIEU. To seek a referral please contact VIEU on 9254 1860.

VIEU is bound by the Privacy Act and has developed its own Privacy Code.
